TRANS -CERVICAL ENDOSCOPIC INSEMINATION PROCEDURE
This procedure involves placing a rigid scope, with a camera attached, into the vagina. A special catheter is then guided through the cervix and into the uterus which deposits the semen directly into the uterus. TCI achieves direct intrauterine insemination without surgery. It is straightforward and stress free and does not involve any anaesthesia or sedation. A TCI when the fresh or chilled semen quality is marginal (40 to 50% motility) may make the difference between success and failure. MVS also advocate the use of TCI with frozen semen. Our conception rate with frozen semen is currently 93%.MVS perform TCI on a daily basis
SIMPLE VAGINAL INSEMINATION
This is normally done when both the stud dog and the bitch are present. It involves collecting semen from the male in the presence of the bitch and using a ridgid catheter to place the semen in the vagina. If done correctly this method is as likely to produce as many puppies as a natural mating and usuallly more. The main advantage is that the semen can be analysed before the AI is undertaken. Many stud dog owners will be shocked and surprised to find out that their stud is producing either dead of defective semen.Simple vaginal AI can also be used with chilled semen .It is not recommended for use with frozen semen
SURGICAL INSEMINATION
A Surgical insemination is a minor surgical procedure that allows the surgeon to inject the semen directly into the uterus.
A 1 inch incision is made on the abdomen through the skin and underlying muscle. The uterus is isolated and evaluated. The semen, whether fresh collected, fresh chilled or frozen, is inseminated though a small rigid catheter into the uterus. The veterinary surgeon can see and feel the uterus fill as the semen is deposited. There is no incision in the uterus proper. This method allows for a full inspection of the uterus and ovaries and allows for the bypass of any vaginal infections that may compromise semen viability. The incision is sutured and in most cases the bitch is sent home the same day
ARTIFICIAL
INSEMINATION
Artificial Insemination,or AI, is the process by which sperm is manually placed into the reproductive tract of a female.Whilst AI is generally associated by many breeders with frozen and/or chilled semen it is also widely performed using freshly collected semen when both the stud dog and the bitch are present.A fresh semen AI is particularly useful with an inexperienced stud dog or a stud dog with a physical disability,it is also widely used when there is a size incompatibility of the dog and bitch (ie height) or when the bitch has a vaginal stricture or persistent hymen.AI also allows us the opportunity to evaluate the semen before insemination, many breeders will be shocked to learn that their stud dog although happily mating bitches,is infact infertile. There are 3 recognised methods of Artificial Insemination. They are detailed below
